Chapter 9: Anandi’s Rainbow

It was raining outside. Anandi was sleeping and dreaming about rainbows. When she woke up and looked out of the window, she saw a huge and bright rainbow in the clear blue sky.

Anandi was very happy. She ran into the garden with her favourite cat, Milli. Anandi loved to draw and paint. She wanted to paint the flowers in her garden using the colours of the rainbow.

She used all the rainbow colours:

• Violet

• Indigo

• Blue

• Green

• Orange

• Red

She coloured one flower with violet, another with indigo, one with blue, and the leaves with green. She painted flowers with orange and red too.

But she did not use yellow for the flowers. She left yellow for the Sun so that it could shine brightly in the sky.

After she finished colouring the flowers and the Sun, the rainbow slowly disappeared from the sky. The garden looked beautiful and colourful.

Colours of the Rainbow

The rainbow has seven colours:
Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red.

We often see a rainbow after rain when the Sun shines.

Activities in the Chapter

Children are asked:

• Have you seen a rainbow?

• When and where did you see it?

• What colour is the sky during sunrise and sunset?

They are also asked to:

• Look at the sky and observe clouds.

• Draw shapes they see in the clouds.

• Share their experience of sunrise, sunset and night sky.

• Rainbows appear after rain.

• Colours make the world bright and happy.

• We should observe and enjoy nature.
