Detailed Notes (Explanation)
One pleasant evening, Aarav and Ananya were sitting with their Chachi. They saw a picture of a beautiful fort in the newspaper. They were curious and asked her about it.
Chachi told them that the fort in the picture was Maheshwar Fort. It was built long ago by Queen Ahilya Bai. She ruled Maheshwar, which is located in Madhya Pradesh, about 95 kilometres from Indore.
Queen Ahilya Bai was a brave and kind ruler. She belonged to the Holkar family. She built a strong and beautiful fort on the banks of the Narmada River. The fort was built on a hill, so she could see her entire kingdom from there.
The fort is also known as Ahilya Fort. It is famous for its overhanging balconies that look like they are floating in the air. It also has grand staircases and temples nearby. The fort was made from special red stones brought from Gujarat and Rajasthan.
A 13-feet tall statue of Queen Ahilya Bai stands in front of the palace even today. It looks like she is guarding her land.
Chachi also told them about the famous Maheshwari sarees. These sarees were first made of pure silk. Later, cotton yarn was added. They are known for their beautiful reversible borders and bright colours like peacock blue, yellow, green, and red. Today, these sarees are sold in India and other countries.
Aarav and Ananya felt excited and wanted to visit Maheshwar one day.
