Chapter 10: The Crow

Chapter Introduction

“The Crow” is a short and meaningful poem about a crow who wants to become beautiful. The crow feels unhappy because he is black. He wants colourful feathers like a peacock.

So, he finds peacock feathers and sticks them in his wings and on his head. He feels proud and dances happily. But the other crows laugh at him. They tell him that he is already beautiful in his black colour.

The poem teaches us to love ourselves as we are.

Detailed Notes (Explanation)

Once there was a crow. He was black in colour. One day, he thought that he was not beautiful. He wanted to grow colourful feathers like a peacock.

He found one peacock feather and stuck it in his tail. Then he found another and picked up many feathers. He put them in his wings and even on his head.

He felt very happy and said, “I am now beautiful!” He danced proudly.

But the other crows laughed at him. They said, “You are beautiful in black. We love you for what you are.”

The crow then understood that he did not need to change himself. He was special in his own way.
