🎡 Let’s Begin: The Mela Count
At the Dussehra mela, a bangle-seller has bangles on sticks. Each stick holds 10 bangles. There are 32 sticks. How many bangles? Count in tens: 10, 20, 30 … 300, 310, 320. Easy!
🏠 Part 1: Hundreds, Tens, and Ones
Take the number 347:
| Hundreds (H) | Tens (T) | Ones (O) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 4 | 7 |
| 300 | 40 | 7 |
347 = 300 + 40 + 7 = three hundred forty-seven
📏 Part 2: Number Line
235 lies between 200 and 250 (a bit before 250). 387 is 13 away from 400. After 999 comes 1,000!
Counting on: 297, 298, 299, 300, 301… · In tens: 380, 390, 400, 410…
🏢 Part 3: The Apartment Pattern
In a building with 10 houses on each floor: going up one floor adds 10, and going one house right adds 1. So 1 floor above 105 is 115, and 10 floors above 13 is 113.
⚖️ Part 4: Comparing Numbers
- Compare the hundreds first: 321 > 231 (3 hundreds > 2 hundreds).
- If the hundreds are the same, compare the tens: 290 > 209.
- If the tens are the same too, compare the ones: 157 > 153.
